These devices make use of radio frequency waves to transmit and receive wireless signals.

In this method, radio waves generated by connecting the transmitter to a socket. Setting the receiver to the same frequency as the transmitter allows for a charge of the battery.

Resonant wireless charging:- This different type of charging technique used in a gadget that requires a considerable quantity of power. This method is employed in devices like vacuum cleaners, big laptops, electric vehicles, and robots. This involves coupling a copper coil connected to the charging device with another copper coil that is related to a power source.

Wireless charging happens when both copper coils tuned to the same electromagnetic frequency.

Types of wireless charging standards: –

Qi standards:- The most popular wireless standard is Qi. The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) created Qi as a standard for inductive charging across up to 40 mm of space. Many significant smartphone manufacturers use the Qi wireless charging standard, including Samsung, Apple, Sony, LG, HTC, Huawei, Nokia (HMD), Motorola, and Blackberry. This standard used in speakers, household appliances, robotics, laptop computers, infrastructure chargers, and in-vehicle chargers.

SAE standards:- The SAE wireless power transfer (WPT) standard was created by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) for use in electric vehicles. Resonant inductive coupling used as the system’s charging technique. According to Forbes, the SAE found that over a 10-inch air gap, wireless charging can operate with up to 94% efficiency. The WPT system divided into two parts: the Vehicle Assembly (VA), which is a sort of on-vehicle equipment located on the opposite side of the vehicle, and the Ground Assembly (GA), which connects the charging hardware to the grid.

Wireless phone charging:- Magnetic wireless charging enables you to charge your device’s battery without a cable and plug. A magnetic wireless car charger takes the form of a pad or mount on which you place your phone to charge. Newer smartphones tend to have a built-in inductive charging receiver. While others need a separate receiver or adapter to be compatible.

How does wireless phone charging work?

  • A copper receiver induction coil placed inside the smartphone.
  • There is a copper transmitter coil within the wireless charger.
  • The transmitter creates an electromagnetic field when you place your phone on the charger and the receiver converts it to electricity to charge the phone’s battery, this process called electromagnetic induction.

What’s ‘Qi’ wireless charging?

Companies, like Apple and Samsung, have adopted the wireless charging standard known as Qi (pronounced “Chee.” which is the Chinese word for “energy flow”).

The largest and most renowned technology, rapidly expanding in popularity, it has soon become the universal standard.

Recent smartphone models, including the iPhones 8, XS, and XR, and the Samsung Galaxy S10, are already Qi charging compatible. Newer versions will also include a Qi wireless charging feature.
